Food

List of must try local dishes.

  • Chicken Rice

  • Laksa (Best laksa is in Katong neighborhood, in the East)

  • Prawn Mee (I usually have this for breakfast, dry with white noodles, best prawn mee in my opinion is "Beach Road Prawn Mee", also in the east, near Katong, here are some other choices)

  • Roti Prata (also breakfast, have an egg roti prata! I love Mr & Mrs Mohgan's, and Springleaf, sometimes the wait can be long)

  • Bak Chor Mee (my fav breakfast, dry noodles with ground pork, fish balls)

  • Chilli Crab & Pepper Crab (Jumbo Seafood is very famous with tourists and still has some of the best chilli crabs)

  • Kaya Toast + Half Boiled Eggs (Breakfast) (Ya kun and Tong Ah are good)

  • Fried fish noodle soup

  • Bak Kut Teh (peppery soup pork ribs with rice - there are 2 types, one very peppery, can be spicy (my fav), the other is more herbal)

  • Nasi Lemak (malay dish - rice with fried chicken, anchovies, egg)

  • Fish Head curry

  • Wonton Mee

  • Peranakan Food (my mum's heritage! it's spicy and sour, very tasty, some favs are Candlenut ($$) and Pangium ($$$))

Must-try Hawker Centers (Open air food courts)

  • Newton

  • Tiong Bahru

  • Lau Pat Sat (tourist oriented)

  • Maxwell Food Center

  • Amoy

In Singapore, there are also foodcourts in every shopping mall (indoor and air-conditioned). Food is generally not as good, but still good!

Singapore also has a variety of other cruisines, some of my favs:

  • Din Tai Fun (best soup dumplings)

  • Ichi ran Ramen

  • Bon Broth (high end, luxurious broth hot pot)

  • Hai di Lao (famous hot pot from China)

  • Samy's Curry (local indian, was featured in Anthony Bourdain's no reservations)

  • Un-Yang-Kor-Dai (thai food, if you like spicy!)

High end Sushi Restaurants (Singapore has some of the best sushi restaurants in the world):

Coffee

Singapore's third wave coffee in general is amazing, should definitely try. You can also try local coffee in hawker centers but they are really sweet with condensed milk and not gourmet coffee

  1. Nylon (opened by a friend who used to work in London and his wife NY, hence the name Nylon ; )

  2. Apartment Coffee

  3. Homeground Coffee (used to be my fav, but they shut down their cafe and only sell coffee and experiences now)

  4. Common Man

  5. Sojournercoffee

  6. Alchemist

  7. Abseil

Architecture

  • Raffles hotel

  • CHIJMES (also in Crazy Rich Asians ;)

  • Gaia, NTU, built in Mass Timber, by Toyo Ito (I heard that you have to pre-register for tickets now)

  • The Hive, NTU, by Heatherwick (opposite Gaia)

  • Sprint Canopy, Mass Timber construction

  • CapitaSpring (Gilead used to be here, public can visit the hanging gardens), by BIG

Places of Interest

  • Bird Paradise (expanded, new bird park opened 2 years ago), the one I went to growing up is already amazing!

Hikes
